Puppy PlaySchool

For puppies less than 18 weeks old who still have all their puppy teeth

For puppies less than 18 weeks old who still have all their puppy teeth (best for teaching good bite inhibition).

The single MOST IMPORTANT training course you will ever attend with your dog. This course is essential to giving your puppy the best start in life and laying the foundation for a loving, lasting relationship. We will help you teach your puppy life skills and introduce them to basic obedience.

The way your dog is allowed to behave during the first few weeks in their new home will set the precedent for years to come. Establish good habits from the outset, they are just as hard to break as bad habits. Puppies are little sponges, absorbing and processing all new information. Socialisation is vital to ensure that your puppy grows up to be a confident, friendly, well behaved, great dog.

Lack of socialisation is the most common reason for aggression in adult dogs and sadly this is so easily prevented. Prevention is the key. We will educate puppy owners on the following topics plus much more.

Topics covered in puppy class

How to socialise your puppy in the most effective way

Importance of appropriate play & reading canine body language

Importance of good nutrition and how it can prevent certain behaviour problems

Toilet training methods

Appropriate toys for life enrichment

Dealing with mouthing and teaching bite inhibition

Preventing jumping up

Dealing with chewing, digging and barking in a positive way

Accepting being touched & groomed

Preventing and dealing with common parasites such as fleas, ticks and worms

Teaching your puppy to be calm

Helping your puppy use its nose for scent work

How to give your puppy choices in everyday life

Basic obedience exercises such as sit, leave it, give up food and toys etc.

The most important part of puppy playschool is the supervised off-leash play sessions.

Puppies get to interact with other puppies and their humans in a controlled and safe environment, supervised by trained dog trainers. Puppies learn vital bite inhibition by receiving feedback from the other puppies; learn appropriate play techniques and how to interpret canine body language, become familiar with, and enjoy the company of all breeds, sizes and types of dogs. Every week is different and we go to great lengths to try to expose your puppy to as many different stimuli as possible. We have a Mary Poppins type bag of tricks containing lots of fun things to incorporate into puppy playschool.

We mimic as many as possible, potential settings and situations that your puppy is likely to encounter as an adult dog such as:

Fancy dress

Different floor textures

People wearing spectacles/sunglasses, hats, uniforms, beards etc.

Household items such as mops, hoovers, hair dryers, black bags etc.

Bicycles, prams, crutches/walking sticks

Loud sudden noises e.g. balloons, fireworks, crying baby

All of these new experiences are carried out in a positive and fun way. We have been known to dress up and act a little silly for the sake of the puppies’ early experience and future development. The whole family are welcome and the kids are bound to have as much fun as the puppies. It’s a PUPPY PARTY!!!!
